Picking a wall color is about more than just what you like. In our Lloret de Mar shop, we often see how a room feels smaller because of a dark tone or how a tiny room gains space just by changing the paint. It all comes down to color temperature and how it works with the natural Costa Brava light.

Cool colors to add space

Cool colors have a blue, green, or grey base. In the NCS Colour system, these tones sit on the part of the wheel that feels fresh. These colors have a receding effect, so the walls look further away from you.

If you have a narrow hallway or a small bedroom in Blanes or Tossa de Mar, use a soft blue like NCS S 1010-B or a cool bluish-grey like RAL 7035 Light grey. It makes the space feel airy and big. These tones work well in rooms with lots of direct sunlight because they balance out the heat.

Warm colors for cozy rooms

Warm colors like reds, oranges, yellows, and ochres do the opposite: they move toward you. A color like NCS S 2020-Y30R makes a large, cold room feel snug and lived-in.

They are great for north-facing rooms in La Selva or Girona, where the light is blue and dim. A warm cream like RAL 1015 Light ivory gives that sunny feeling even on cloudy days. Just remember that if you use too much in small spaces, the walls might feel like they are closing in.

The light on the Costa Brava

The light here is strong and very white. This makes colors look different than they do inland. To get it right, use our Blatem tinting machine at Suministros Barrero. We can mix exact samples in Blatem matte plastic paint for you to try at home.

A common mistake is picking a color in the shop and not checking it at sunset. Artificial light at night is usually warm. This can turn a neutral grey yellowish if you did not pick the right NCS reference.

How to paint to fix a room's shape

1. Long rooms: Paint the back wall (the shortest one) with a deep warm color like RAL 3004 Purplish red. This brings the wall forward and balances the room.
2. Low ceilings: Paint the ceiling with a pure, cool white or NCS S 0502-B. Because it is a cool, light tone, the ceiling looks higher.
3. Dark spaces: Skip pure white if there is no light; it will just look grey and dirty. Use a very pale, warm yellow to brighten the room.

Use quality tools for these products. A Pentrilo microfiber roller gives you a smooth finish and prevents marks that ruin the look. Check our tools section to find what you need.

Scent marketing: scents for every temperature

Color starts with the eyes, but the right smell completes the room. In our Air-Bosq air fresheners section, we have scents that match your wall temperature:

  • For cool tones like RAL 7035, use AQUA. Its bergamot and jasmine notes boost that clean, coastal feel.
  • If you chose a warm ochre like NCS S 2020-Y30R, the COLONIA fragrance is the best match. The coffee and vanilla add the warmth a cozy space needs.
  • For balanced neutrals or deep blues, we suggest FIERO. Its cedar and musk notes add character and elegance.

FAQ

Which color makes a room look bigger?
Light, cool colors like NCS S 1010-B or RAL 7035, because they make the walls look further away.

How can I warm up a north-facing living room?
Use warm tones with a yellow or reddish base, like RAL 1015 Light ivory, to balance the cool blue light from outside.

Is a matte or satin finish better for space?
Matte hides bumps, but satin reflects more light. This helps a small space look brighter.

Can I mix cool and warm colors on the same wall?
Yes, but keep it balanced. Use a cool color as the main tone and add a warm tone on one wall for an accent.

Where can I see real NCS and RAL codes?
We have the official physical charts at our Lloret de Mar shop so you can see the real tone under different lights.
