RAL Classic or RAL Design: which one to pick
RAL 7016 is the usual standard. If you need more precision, the RAL Design chart has almost ten times more colors for when Classic falls short.

RAL Classic: the industrial standard
RAL Classic codes use four digits, like RAL 9010, RAL 7016, or RAL 1015. They started in 1927 to standardize German industry colors. Now they are the common language for:
- Aluminum and PVC windows, shutters, and doors.
- Metal structures and street furniture.
- Machinery and industrial vehicles.\n
## RAL Design: when Classic is not enough
RAL Design System+ uses a seven-digit code based on hue, lightness, and chroma (HLC). It has 1,825 colors. It includes shades that RAL Classic misses, such as greiges, muted olive greens, and terracottas.
Practical tips
- If your trim or windows are already a RAL Classic color, match that same code for your wall paint or touch-ups.
- For facades and renovations where color matching matters, ask for RAL Design or NCS.
- To paint metal doors or radiators, use Blatem Hidroesmalte water-based enamel tinted to the exact RAL code.
