Terracotta and Earth Tones: The Warm Palette Defining 2026
Terracotta is making a comeback, but in a "washed" version: less saturated, more matte, and with a hint of pink or gray that gives it a contemporary edge.

The Mistake of Using Saturated Terracotta
A highly vibrant terracotta (NCS S 3060-Y60R and similar) can turn a living room into a traditional tavern. The key for 2026 is to lower the saturation: work with chromaticity levels between 20 and 40, while maintaining the Y50R–Y70R hue.
Three Ways to Use Them
- Subtle: Pinkish clay on one wall, with the rest in off-white.
- Contrast: Washed terracotta on the walls combined with off-white woodwork and trim.
- Immersive: Sienna earth on walls + ceiling + baseboards, paired with natural wood flooring.
Practical Equivalencies
